Possible Kobe Bryant Challenges for the 2017-18 Arizona Basketball Season
By David Rosen
Kobe Bryant recently challenged athletes and entertainers to certain things. It’s time for Zona Zealots to issue Kobe Challenges to the 2017-18 Wildcats.
Another one! Another social media challenge has been issued. This time by NBA great, Kobe Bryant. Recently, he posted on his Instagram several different challenges. Some random, some obtainable.
A lot of times there are challenges on social media that are fun, strange, not so smart and original. This one by Bryant would fall into the category of the latter. It’s refreshing when it does happen, especially in the crazy times we live in. Especially coming from Bryant, who has accomplished quite a lot in his basketball career, it is a true honor for those who are challenged by No. 24!

What if Bryant challenged the 2017-18 Wildcat team? What would those possibly look like? Here are some possible ones:
Rawle Alkins, Allonzo Trier and DeAndre Ayton – All First Team
With the amount of talent Rawle Alkins, Allonzo Trier and DeAndre Ayton possess, this challenge will very likely happen this season. Why even stop at All First Team?! All First Team Pac 12, All First Team Pac 12 Tournament and All First Team Nationally are just as attainable.
Ayton, Emmanuel Akot, Brandon Randolph, Ira Lee and Alex Barcello – All Freshman Team
Back in the 1990s, Michigan had the Fab Five. This year the Wildcats have their version of the Fab Five, the Elite Five: Ayton, Emmanuel Akot, Brandon Randolph, Ira Lee and Alex Barcello – your 2017-18 All Freshman Team! These five freshmen are going to have an immediate impact at the beginning of the season and will put the Cats in a prime position to make a deep run come March.
DeAndre Ayton – Freshman of the Year
Coming into the 2017-18 season, Ayton has high expectations individually and for his team. At over 7’1 and 250 pounds, he has the potential to be one of the greats at Arizona. There are many other talented freshmen that will be playing this year, in the Pac-12 and Nationally, so he does have his work cut out for him, but this challenge is within reach!
Coach Sean Miller – Coach of the Year
Coach Sean Miller has the deepest roster since he’s been in Arizona – and that’s a good problem to have! Providing equal playing time for each player and finding the right combinations out on the floor will be key to the Wildcat’s success this season. Having Coach Lorenzo Romar as Miller’s right-hand man will be a huge piece to the puzzle! Miller’s team will bring out the best in their opponents, but as the saying goes what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!
