In early August, Jahvon Quinerly sent shock waves through the college basketball world when he chose to join Shareef O’Neal and Brandon Williams at Arizona for the Class of 2018.

For the sake of staying positive about the future even though we do not know what the future will bring, we would like to take this moment to celebrate the commitment of the young phenom Jahvon Quinerly of Jelly Fam fame. Hailing all the way from New Jersey, Jahvon Quinerly will be the first player from New Jersey since Rawle Alkins. Lauri Markannen also played high school basketball in New Jersey; however, he only played prep ball in Jersey as he was born in Finland. From the first moment that Jahvon steps on the basketball court, all eyes will be on him next season to possibly lead the charge at the beginning of a hopeful back to back championship run.

Ranked as the number 1 PG in the state of New Jersey and the number 11 ranked national player in the entire country, Quinerly has all the tools to succeed at whatever level he plays in. He chose to join the historic tradition of elite Point Guards coming to Arizona to play collegiately. Quinerly decided on the Arizona Wildcats over Villanova, UCLA, Seton Hall, Stanford, Kansas, and Virginia. Knowing that Sean Miller and company were able to pry him away from in-state college Seton Hall is a win in itself.

Jahvon, along with Isaiah Washington and Ja’Quaye James came up with the term “Jelly Fam.” One performs a “jelly” by spinning the ball the opposite way than it is going off the backboard into the hoop. Washington currently plays for Minnesota, Ja’Quaye has yet to commit to a college. Arizona fans should be excited about the Jelly Fam coming to McKale Arena.

With Arizona having up to 5 players leave the team after the upcoming season, Jahvon Quinerly will be the main guy next season. DeAndre Ayton, Allonzo Trier, and Rawle Alkins are all non-seniors who should, more than likely see their draft stocks skyrocket after an incredible 2017-2018 season and will likely head to the 2018 NBA Draft in hopes of getting drafted. Seniors Dusan Rustic and Parker Jackson Cartwright are currently the only seniors on this years’ team.

Jahvon can be seen this fall playing for Hudson Catholic High School in New Jersey with fellow D1 recruits Luther Muhammad and Louis King, likely to win a state title in their senior year. On Friday, Luther committed to play at Ohio State over Xavier, St. Johns, West Virginia, and Virginia. Just the day before Louis King decided to play at another Pac-12 school in Oregon. Seeing battles between Jahvon and King at least once, maybe twice a year will be great for all Pac-12 fans.

With still one more year left before we Jahvon in an Arizona Wildcat’s jersey we can only hope that he progresses even more in his final year in high school. Hopefully, Jahvon can become the next Mike Bibby of the Wildcats program. The Arizona Wildcats men’s’ basketball season kicks in just over a month. Be sure to let us know what you are excited to see from Quinerly next year in the comments below! Bear Down!
