Arizona Women’s Basketball drops game to Cal State Northridge
Arizona Women’s Basketball (2-3) dropped its third-straight game of the season, after losing to Cal State Northridge on Saturday.
It has been a slow start for Arizona Basketball, especially for the Arizona Women’s Basketball team as they dropped their third-straight game on Saturday.
Despite the hot recruiting, and the 2-0 start to the season for the Women’s Basketball team, the Wildcats entered Saturday’s contest versus Cal State Northridge at 2-2.

Hoping to get things sorted out on their young season, the Wildcats needed to get back on track in a big way! It was a good start for Arizona, as they jumped out to a 33-28 lead at halftime, but unfortunately, things will dwindle away.
As the second half started, things really began to take a wrong turn for the Wildcats, as the Matadors would outscore Arizona 38-30, pacing themselves to the 66-63 win.
Senior guard JaLea Bennett and junior forward Destiny Graham led the team in scoring with 18 and 16 points respectively. The two have been big-time players for the Cats to start the season. True freshman Marlee Kyles has also had a prominent role early on!
Kyles has scored the most points in the first five games of her collegiate career in school history since Shawntinice Polk scored 96!
However, the Wildcats will have to find more consistent production from everyone if they expect to improve on their record from last season!
As you may recall, former Arizona alum and one-time basketball great, Adia Barnes took over the program last season, and went 14-16 (5-13) in her first season with the Cats!
That team was in part led by Malena Washington and LaBrittney Jones last season. That former senior duo, of course, is no longer with the program as they have moved on, but that means plenty of opportunities for others to step up.
As the team tries to find their identity without Washington and Jones, Barnes at least has this program heading in the right direction.
The team will return to action on Tuesday when they take on Long Beach State. This should be a good match up for Arizona, as the Beach is just 0-5 on the season!
