Arizona Football staying busy, gives out numerous offers
Arizona Football recruiting is alive and well. With the new staff already hard at work, offers are coming out left and right.
It’s been a busy few weeks for the Arizona Football program. As the newly hired staff is getting acclimated in Tucson, the new Wildcat coaches have been sending out offers in a furry.
Recruiting is always an ongoing thing, and for Arizona Football, it’s going to be an area that newly hired head coach Kevin Sumlin, is trying impact in a big way, and immediately.

It’s no secret Arizona’s classes in relation to the rest of the Pac-12 have been less than stellar. Since 2012, here is how Arizona’s classes have ranked in the conference according to 247sports; 10th (2012), 7th (2013), 6th (2014), 9th (2015), 9th (2016), 10th (2017) and 11th (2018).
We can get into specifics and theories as to why that is, but regardless it needs to get better, especially if Arizona is going to make that next, proverbial, step-up.
Stagnation. Aside from all the behind scene stuff that ultimately led to Rich Rodriguez’s undoing at Arizona, it’s like the Wildcats had hit their peak.
After the remarkable season in 2014, Arizona was unable to capitalize on that momentum in 2015, and then in 2016, the Wildcats had a major crash, finishing 3-9.
Props to Rodriguez for winning with what he had, and to a large extent, winning with players who fit his system. However, it’s a new age, and Sumlin is now in charge. He’s considered to be a better recruiter, and if Arizona is to take that proverbial next step, it’s going to start off the field.
Here’s a highlight of a few of those players:
2019- 4* DE- Stephon Wright 6’3” 260 lbs. Cathedral HS (Los Angeles, CA)
https://twitter.com/Phon0nesix/status/971195035952717825
Stephon is a big and powerful Defensive Lineman with tons of explosiveness. He gets off the line, makes a great first move and pursues the ball with fervor. He also gets great separation from opposing linemen.
Watch his highlights below:
2019- 3* WR- Drake London 6’4” 200 lbs. Moorpark HS (Moorpark HS)
Drake is a big time receiver! He has great size, speed, hands and control, and to be honest, he’s the total package. He’s a big body, he moves very well, and is not easy to bring down. He also blocks well down field.
Watch Drake’s highlights below:
2019- DT- Sio Nofoagatoto’a 6’3” 300 lbs. Clearwater Academy International (Clearwater, FL)
Sio is a physically gifted defensive lineman. At a massive, 6-feet-3-inches and 300 lbs., Nofoagatoto’a, he absolutely dominates opposing linemen. He gets off the ball well, using his overall size and strength to create great penetration, finishing plays well, and absolutely punishing the ball carrier.
Check out Sio’s highlights below:
2019- DE- Drake Jackson 6’4” 260 lbs. Centennial HS (Corona, CA)
https://twitter.com/The99Athlete/status/969793710366969859
A tenaciously athletic defensive end, Jackson makes things difficult for opposing lineman. He is explosive off the line, creating penetration. He has great eye discipline, does a great job at pursuing the football, and punishes ball carriers.
Check out Drake’s highlights below:
2019- JC OT- Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu 6’7” 345 lbs. Navarro College (Coriscana, TX)
BEEF! Malaesala is HUGE! He stands a massive 6-feet-7-inches and 345 lbs. and plays every bit like it. He’s big and strong, two things you need on the offensive line. He moves fairly well for his size, is very physical, and does a great job at getting out on lead blocks. He isn’t all that quick footed and could get beat by quicker defensive linemen, if he gets caught flat footed, but make no mistake Malaesala is big time talent.
Watch his highlights below:
2019- QB- Ryan Hilinski 6’3” 215 lbs. Orange Lutheran HS (Orange, CA)
*Ryan is the brother to the late Tyler Hilinski, QB at WSU
Ryan is a very good quarterback! When all is said and done, he’s going to have a ton of offers to choose from. He’s big, with a strong arm, and good release. Ryan has a ton of confidence standing in the pocket delivering some big time throws, and can really sling the ball.
