Arizona Basketball draws a Four Seed in the South Region
Selection Sunday is here and as the selections have now officially been made, the Arizona Basketball team learned their fate.
WE’RE HEADING TO THE SOUTH! After the Arizona Basketball team powered their way through the Pac-12 Tournament, the Wildcats earned a four-seed in the South Region of the Bracket, clinching their 35th appearance to the big dance.
Upset? We are too a bit, but we can’t focus on that, it’s time to move forward and prepare for a tough road.

From an outsiders perspective let’s take a look at the Wildcats’ resume.
Arizona finished 27-7 (14-4) with a regular season Pac-12 Championship, and a Conference Tournament Championship.
The Wildcats rank 13th overall in the RPI standings according to CBS, and their strength of schedule is 55th overall. Here’s how Arizona fared against their schedule; versus teams in the current Top 25, Arizona was 0-1, that loss coming against Purdue in the disastrous Atlantis Tournament in the Bahamas.
Versus teams in the 26 to 50 range, we were 5-1, against teams 51 to 100, we were 9-4. Teams 101 to 200? 8-1. Versus teams in the 200+ range, the Wildcats were a perfect 5-0.
So why a four-seed? Well, its kind of simple. According to the NCAA, Arizona doesn’t have too many “signature wins”. Against teams in the NCAA Tournament, the Wildcats were just 5-3, beating UCLA, ASU twice, UMBC and Texas A&M.
With that said, their road to San Antonio starts on Thursday, as the Wildcats will play 13-seeded Buffalo in the first round. Should Arizona win, we could very well get a rematch of the 1997 NCAA Final against the Kentucky Wildcats, a five-seed.
Also in that region, Virginia got the one seed, Cincinnati the two, and Tennessee the three. Davidson could be a sleeper, and Miami is now slouch either
Should the Wildcats hope to get to the Sweet Sixteen, we could see a potential match-up against the Virginia Cavaliers, a tough, defensive-minded team. Here’s a brief look at the South Region.
Also in the tournament from the Pac-12? UCLA and ASU, the only other teams from the conference to make it. The Bruins got an 11-seed in the East region and will play St. Bonaventure in a First-Four match-up on Tuesday.
The Sun Devils somehow got in. After starting the season 12-0, and finishing 8-11 to end the year, including 1-5 over their last six games, jumped USC in making the tournament.
ASU earned an 11-seed in the Midwest, and will also have a First-Four match-up. They will play Syracuse on Wednesday.
Overall, it should be a good tournament. Arizona has been playing well of late and it’ll be interesting to see how the Wildcats fare this tournament.
It’s been a LOOOONNNNGGGG time since the Wildcats have been to the Final Four, but sometimes it takes a bit of luck, skill and playing good basketball. The past week has arguably been Arizona’s best stretch of play this season. Also, it helps having arguably the best player in college basketball on your side!
We for one are hopeful the Wildcats can have another strong postseason run. Listen to the team following their conference win over USC.
