Former Arizona Wildcat Channing Frye came off the bench for the Los Angeles Lakers and put on a show, helping his team to an overtime victory over the San Antonio Spurs 122-112.

Showtime! Channing Frye was on FIRE tonight. He came off the bench and delivered a stellar performance for the Los Angeles Lakers, who have now swept the San Antonio Spurs this season 3-0.  Don’t tell this old man he doesn’t got the goods any more, because he does. After playing in the NBA for 14 season, Frye can still perform at a high level he just needed the right coach maybe.

More from Cats in the Pros

In only his sixth active game with the Lakers, Frye was just about perfect. He finished the game with 19 points, 8-9 from the field, 3-3 from 3pt range, four rebounds, one assist and one block in 26 minutes of play off the bench. The only shot he missed was a dunk and Luke Walton told him not to try dunking anymore after the game. Frye was in one of those zone’s tonight and could not miss.

Cleveland Cavs might be regretting their decision to trade him after watching him play tonight. It wasn’t like this game was out of reach for the Lakers and Coach Luke Walton just played to give him some minutes.

This game was close throughout and this sweet looking floater by Frye, gave the Lakers a 104-101 lead with three minutes to play.

This game went into overtime, but Frye did not get a chance to play in extra minutes. The Lakers were led by rookie sensation and former Utah Ute Kyle Kuzma. He had 30 points and five rebounds and were too much for the Spurs to handle though in the end and won 122-112.  The Lakers now move to an overall record of 34-44 and 20-18 at home.

Frye was trending on Twitter tonight with his performance:

Coach Luke Walton even showed some Wildcat love for his former teammate at Arizona, happy he has a coach and leader on the court. They played together for two seasons in college, great to see these two back together!

Frye joined the Lakers on February 8th in a three -way trade with the Cavs, which sent him, Isaiah Thomas and a draft pick to the Lakers. In return, the Cavs got Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr. Being traded is nothing new for the veteran. Frye has been traded four previous times and has played for five different teams. That’s what you call a journey man!

After he was acquired by the Lakers, he had to go under go appendix surgery and missed 12 games before joining the team on March 26th. At 34 years of age, to do what he does, considering what he has been through, is simply amazing.

Who knows what the future holds for Frye and the Los Angeles Lakers. Hopefully they do the right thing and keep this guy as part of the organization. He brings the comedy, the talent, the experience and most importantly he knows how to ball for a big man. Bear Down!
