Finally some good news for the Arizona Basketball team as the Wildcats gain a much needed commitment in the Class of 2018!

With Arizona Basketball in desperate need of good news, as well as some more players for 2018, finally the Wildcats can continue to their off season work.

On Saturday morning, with four-star Devonaire Doutrive on his official visit, the highly touted and uncommitted shooting guard shut down his recruitment. The news broke via social media, and with Doutrive’s commitment, he becomes the Wildcats’ lone commitment thus far.

While the roster outlook wasn’t completely horrible, some more depth and talent was surely needed. The commitment of Doutrive was a big one, for many reasons.

Standing 6-feet-5-inches and 175 pounds, Doutrive provides solid size and length. 247 ranks Doutrive as the 82nd overall player in the class of 2018, picking the Wildcats over offers from Arizona State, Georgetown and UNLV among others.

He will join a talented roster with Chase Jeter, Alex Barcello, Emmanuel Akot, Dylan Smith, Brandon Randolph and Ira Lee. Not a bad group if you ask me.

Now before all the negative Ned’s and Nancie’s start chiming in about how those players didn’t do much this past season, recall, the majority of our production came from; Deandre Ayton, Allonzo Trier and Rawle Alkins, three players who will be drafted in the NBA in a few months.

Also, recall what the legendary Lute Olson would always say, the biggest jump a player could make is from the freshmen, to their sophomore season. Out of that group of six? Four were freshmen. Jeter will also play his first season in Tucson after sitting out last year as per college transfer rules.

In 2018-19, there will be plenty of minutes, and a lot of opportunity for some players who were once highly touted and highly recruited, to step up.

Things are also potentially on the up for Arizona. The Wildcats can offer minutes and plenty of exposure from a top notch program.

Never mind the FBI investigation and uncertainty. Trials for that case won’t begin until 2019, and it’s not guaranteed the NCAA would dish out punishment before then. Sure, more information could possibly come out, but it’s foolish to speculate without additional facts that are not known or present at this time.

Doutrive certainly feels comfortable enough to partake in the great opportunity, and if the end goal for him is to eventually get to the NBA, why not do it at a school that has a proven track record in getting multiple kids in the league.

Coming in, he should compete for plenty of minutes, and his natural scoring ability should also be very much welcomed.

In addition to Doutrive, the Wildcats still are very much in play for Brandon Williams, James Akinjo and a myriad of talented graduate transfers.

Sometimes all it takes is for one domino to fall, and the commitment of Doutrive should provide some confidence for Arizona moving forward.

Just by looking at his game, there is a lot to like about Doutrive. Just take a look!
