Arizona Basketball finally hires new assistant weeks after Lorenzo Romar announced he was leaving the Arizona Basketball team.
It’s tough being an Arizona Basketball fan! When you’re a good program, other programs come to you to hire away your coaches. This past season, when former Washington head coach came to Tucson, we could only assume he wouldn’t be here long.
After a long, and rather successful head coaching career at Washington, the Huskies let Romar go after a 9-22 season in 2016-17. His time on the market did last long, as Sean Miller and the Wildcats moved quickly to pick him up.

After his lone season here, it was time for him to return to the head coaching ranks. This time, he’s returning to a familiar destination, Pepperdine. The first school to provide him with a head coaching opportunity back in 1996-97.
Well, with the now absence of Romar the Wildcats needed a replacement to him. Enter Danny Peters!
Who? The four-year assistant at Ball State, who served under head coach James Whitford, a longtime assistant to Sean Miller. Whitford as you may recall, coached at Arizona from 2009-13.
Interestingly enough, Peters served as a graduate manager and Director of Basketball Operations at Arizona for a few years. Now after some time away from Tucson, Peters is coming back!
While news seemed to break via social media on Saturday, the school is expected to make some kind of announcement soon!
Peters is a young and hungry coach with a great basketball mind. He has been slowly climbing the coaching ranks, and I’m sure his familiar face will be one welcomed back.
A former player and graduate of Ohio State, it’ll be interesting to see how Peters performs with the Wildcats. He’s still young, but shows an aptitude to continue to develop his career and show his worth as a coach.
Now with Devonaire Doutrive committed, and Peters hired, things are looking up for Arizona Basketball!
