The Arizona Baseball team continued their winning ways on Tuesday evening, as the Wildcats route Grand Canyon in Phoenix.

Confidence is key in baseball, and when you have it, it’s a good thing! After winning two of three games against then, No. 4 ranked Oregon State this past weekend, the Arizona Baseball team are continuing their winning ways.

On a Tuesday night in Phoenix, the Wildcats took on the Grand Canyon Lopes in a mid-week game. Senior pitcher Juan Aguilera took the mound, in what would be a dominating performance.

Aguilera would pitch five solid innings in this one, surrendering just one run on six hits, while striking out four batters. Aguilera would also pick up his fourth win on the season.

From the start, the Wildcats kept their hot bats going from last last weekend. Nick Quintana has been on fire of late, and in the first inning, he would homer to left field, driving in three runs, making it 3-0 in favor of the Cats.

Thanks to timely hitting, Arizona would add four more runs in the second, taking a 7-0 lead.

The next inning, the Wildcats would come up to bat putting the first two runners on base. Jacob Blas would then come up, laying down a sacrifice bunt, ultimately reaching base on a fielders choice. Two runs would score on the Lopes’ mistake, making it 9-0 in favor of the Wildcats. Arizona would add one more run in that inning!

GCU would get a run back in the fifth inning off a single that scored the Lopes’ left fielder, Tyler Wyatt. Without hesitation, the Wildcats would respond in the very next inning, adding another run Cesar Salazar would single down the right field line, scoring Quintana, making it 11-1 Cats!

Arizona’s offensive barrage wouldn’t stop there. Already up 11-1, Quintana would homer again, this time sending a solo shot to left field. The Wildcats would add two more runs off a Blas single making it 14-1.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worst, the Wildcats would add two more more runs in the ninth, pacing themselves to a 16-1 victory, improving their record to 20-11 (4-5) on the season.

The Wildcats will return to baseball action this weekend in Los Angeles, when Arizona takes on Pac-12 foe, the USC Trojans. The three-game series starts on Friday at 7 pm!
