Arizona is continuing their pace of adding recruits to the 2018 class. The latest is in the form of Samford graduate transfer, Justin Coleman.
“Blink and you might miss it.” This could be the motto for Sean Miller and Arizona over the past month. Samford graduate transfer, Justin Coleman announced via Twitter his commitment to the University of Arizona Friday afternoon.
Coleman’s decision came quickly and started the weekend off right. As you may recall, Coleman was in Tucson this week on his official visit and people had a feeling he could walk away a Wildcat. What helped drive the speculation? A well-timed tweet!

With his list narrowed down to Arizona, Saint Louis, UAB, Northern Kentucky, Texas Southern, and SMU, the sense was Arizona had the lead. The 5-foot-10 guard is eligible to play immediately and provides much-needed depth at the point guard position.
Alex Barcello is the only returning, true point guard, for Arizona next year. Dylan Smith and Brandon Randolph both are primarily shooting guards, while Randolph can slide to the wing position as well. But teams who want to be successful need to have depth at the point.
As fellow ZonaZealots contributor pointed out a couple of days ago, Coleman was a 4-star point guard in the 2014 recruiting class, a former, Top 100 recruit and 18th overall point guard in that class.
Coleman initially committed to Alabama before transferring to Samford after his Sophomore year in 2016.
In his one year with the Bulldogs, Coleman put up numbers you’d like to see out of your floor general. He averaged 13.5 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 6.6 apg, 1.2 spg, shot 81 percent from the line, and 82.3 percent from the line for his career. He also shot 37 percent from behind the arc and 44 percent from the field.
Coleman averaged 2.4 assists per turnover last year, ranking him as 12th in the nation in assist percentage.
Arizona is still on the radar for former commit Brandon Williams, but Coleman’s commitment eases the nerves for some fans.
