On the final day of the 2018 NFL Draft, as only one Wildcat was selected, a few Former Wildcats were picked up via free agency.

The 2018 NFL Draft came and went, and on Saturday, as Dane Cruikshank was the only Wildcat selected in the Draft, that left many others hoping they would get a call. Luckily, a few Former Wildcats were picked via free agency.

It’s been tough watching the NFL Draft in recent years as an Arizona Football fan, as it’s not frequent, nor often that a former Wildcat gets selected.

More from Zona Zealots

Since 2013 (Rich Rodriguez’s first official draft after coaching a season at Arizona), the Wildcats have seen just six players drafted (including Dane this year). The previous six years before that, Arizona had18 players selected.

As Arizona saw just one player drafted in 2018, it’s worth noting, that Cruikshank was also the highest former Arizona player selected in the NFL Draft, since Kadeem Carey was selected in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Hopefully, that’s a trend new head coach Kevin Sumlin can change, and change quickly moving forward.

Regardless, it is great to see that Arizona will once again be well-represented in the NFL this coming year. Aside from Dane, a few other former Wildcats will also be given their chance.

Former offensive linemen Jacob Alsadek, and Gerhard de Beer, as well as former running back Zach Green and Nick Wilson were signed too!

Following the draft, they were all picked up via free agency. Alsadek landed with the Green Bay Packers, de Beer will be heading to the Buffalo Bills, Wilson is going to the Chicago Bears, and Green has landed with the Cincinnati Bengals.
