The 2018 season is over, but the Arizona Baseball team is already reloading for next season as the Wildcats are adding MLB Quality Talent!

It’s been a rough month or so for the Arizona Baseball team. As the Wildcats not only missed the College Postseason by a small margin, but then the MLB Draft happened, and the program got hit pretty hard, as eight players were selected.

Those obstacles, along with other difficult recruiting variables can certainly make it challenging to coach any college baseball team. Somehow, head coach Jay Johnson has been showing a way to manage.

So far in his career, Johnson has shown he is a tenacious and talented recruiter. This year is no different as the head skipper rebounded nicely by landing the 13th ranked class for 2018!

However in college baseball, recruiting that well also has its drawbacks as a number of those players were selected in the 2018 MLB Draft, and had the option to forego college altogether.

Now after the proverbial ‘dust’ of the MLB Draft has settled, we have a better idea of who’s coming and who will not be with the Wildcats in 2019.

Gone are juniors Cody DeasonAlfonso RivasMichael FlynnCesar Salazar and Travis Moniot. Even more challenging is that Arizona’s two, highest-rated baseball recruits (Matthew Liberatore and Nolan Gorman) were selected early in the 2018 MLB Draft, and will forego college altogether to play for a lucrative offer from their respective clubs!

Luckily, the Wildcats will still have quite the talent coming in! The program announced that six MLB Draft picks will delay the start to their pro careers, and report to campus!

Given the returning talent for next season, Arizona has a lot to look forward to. Coming back will be Nick Quintana, Cameron Cannon, Matt Fraizer, Randy Labaut, Zach Sherman and Jacob Blas among numerous others.
