Arizona Football recruiting is chugging right along, as the Wildcats pick-up their eighth, overall commitment in the class of 2019.

Still months from the start of the 2018 season and the Arizona Football team is continuing their recruiting momentum. On Friday, the Wildcats gained their eighth commitment from So Cal receiver, Jalen Johnson.

The three-star receiver from Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Corona, CA decided to shut down his recruitment yesterday, announcing his commitment via social media.

Johnson picked Arizona, despite having offers from Utah, Oregon State and Colorado State among others. It seems the relationship he has with current coaches Demetrice Martin, Taylor Mazzone and Kevin Sumlin are what ultimately paid off.

As we said he becomes the eighth commit in the class of 2019, and will join current commits Grant Gunnell, Kwabena Watson, Kane Bradford, Michael Wiley, Jordan Morgan, Derrion Clark and Kyle Ostendorp.

Standing nearly six-feet-three-inches and over 170-pounds, Johnson comes in possessing great size at receiver, something Arizona could certainly use more of. There’s no doubt he will add depth, size and talent at the position.

In addition to his great size, Johnson is extremely quick. Reportedly having ran a 4.55 40-yard dash and a 4.37 short-shuttle, simply put, the kid is fast.

Rated as a three-star receiver, Johnson is ranked as 147th at his position overall in the class of 2019 according to 247Sports. At Eleanor Roosevelt this past year, Johnson reportedly had 10 receptions for 189 yards and a touchdown through six games according to Maxpreps.

Disregard the numbers at least somewhat, as Johnson played behind fellow teammate Chase Williams, a highly-rated recruit in the class of 2018 that signed with USC.

While it’s tough to deduce how Johnson will perform at the next level strictly by looking at his stats in high school, nonetheless the he has a lot of potential. By watching his highlights, there is a lot to like about Johnson’s game.

First off, he lines up on the outside a lot, posing to be a tough match-up for anyone defending him, based on shear size. From first observation, Johnson is very fluid in his routes, with a great, first step.

He has good explosiveness, and just looks natural running. He is able to break off his routes quickly and get separation to put himself in great position to make a play.

Overall, he has good hands, is tough to cover in the open field and is best in short-to-intermediate routes. Just take a look for yourself!
