The Dallas Cowboys got bad news, it seems their first-year offensive lineman Marcus Martin may have suffered a career-ending injury.
The Dallas Cowboys may have lost their offensive lineman Marcus Martin for the season. Enter recent Arizona Football grad OL Jacob Alsadek. Martin tore a ligament in his big toe. Todd Archer, ESPN, reported that the injury was suffered in the preseason opener against the San Francisco 49ers where they lost by three points 21-24. Martin, put on the injured reserve, was signed as a backup guard/center for the Cowboys over the offseason.
Ironically Alsadek was cut by the Green Bay Packers after the team signed Byron Bell, a former Cowboys Tackle. Alsadek spent time since May with the Packers and former teammate Reggie Gilbert who has spent time on the Packers practice squad but was called up last season.
According to Inside the Star, the Cowboys worked out six players this week. Of the six there were two OL’s, one was Daronte Boldin and the other was Alsadek. The Cowboys chose 6’7″, 312-pound Alsadek.
Inside the Star also mentioned that Jacob will be able to compete for a backup spot on the best offensive line in the league behind veteran Joe Looney. The former Wildcat was about to play in the Alliance of American Football League which starts to play in February.

Alsadek signed a two-year contract with Greenbay, per his mom Sophia. Martin, a veteran, was only on a one-year contract, so it seems the team needed a stop-gap player in Martin.
The Cowboys just signed a player with a ton of college experience including 48 games for the Wildcats. Jacob was also a team leader and is a pro at interviews and teamwork. Rich Rodriguez would turn often to Alsadek after games where the press room was not a place any coach or player would want to enter and be grilled.
I remember after the huge loss to Washington State by 62 points (69-7), Alsadek was emotional, but kept his cool with reporters and used that emotion to show how the team could bounce back the following season. Alsadek helped Khalil Tate get all those yards and break records. The team was expected to win only 2-3 games, but Alsadek promised us more and delivered seven.
Here is Jacob being interviewed at Pac-12 Media Days last year:
We love to hear when our former Cats sign contracts with professional teams. Jacob went from playing in America’s colors to playing professionally for America’s Team.
