It’s time for Arizona Football! Those of us who enjoy going behind the scenes and getting to know the team better will hopefully enjoy this post.

Arizona Football fans have been salty of late, so instead of fueling their fire, we thought we would drown their flames a bit by writing about some interesting, not necessarily newsworthy items to get you closer to the team.

Media writing and humanizing college athletes are almost unheard of unless of course, it’s a feel good or comeback story. Why not spend the season getting to know the personalities on the team more? It’s all the little things that make leading up to, during and after a game that make the game itself more interesting. Since I follow a lot of the players, coaches, and fan sites on various social media platforms, I thought it would be fun to get the Arizona Football fans a closer look into the team and the young student athletes that bust their tushes for them every day.

I just read Greg Hansen’s “Mr. Football” piece from the Arizona Daily Star leading up to today’s game against the Oregon State Beavers. The negativity and patronization dripped off my computer screen and prompted me to bring some light and fun into your fandom.

So let’s go!

Center Josh McCauley’s teammates were so proud of him after a gif was tweeted out from Yahoo Sports. The gif was of Josh slapping Ed Oliver’s helmet went semi-viral. McCauley batted Houston’s Ed Oliver’s helmet when he leaned in or encroached so far over the line of scrimmage, it seemed McCauley wouldn’t be able to hike the ball. His helmet slap drew a five-yard penalty. He said his phone was going off after the game and that he was taught to touch the defensive player when they cross the line, so that’s what he did.

What bravado for a true freshman stepping in at such a crucial position, he was thrown into the fire after Nathan Eldridge got hurt.

The Houston game was painful to watch, agreed. But we found out later that Oliver quite possibly had helped twist Tates ankle early in the game. Tate mentioned something in the post-game press conference, “They do a lot of aggressive tackling I’d say. I wouldn’t say it’s not fair, just aggressive. It’s not just a regular tackle. Like tackle and twist, things of that nature.” So good for Josh to keep Oliver in check on that play.

Next up, defensive tackle Finton Connolly was asked about what he eats this week. He said he starts with two pieces of french toast, three scoops of eggs and lots of bacon and sausage, and that is just plate number one.

Finton tweeted out “I love everyone thinking they have a chance in out eating me.” We couldn’t resist and chimed in. Remember when we interviewed Offensive lineman Michael Eletise before he got to Tucson? Well, we do. He told us his hobby was eating.

ZZ suggested at eat off, “Offense vs defense competition maybe at some point?” Finton answered with thinking emoji’s and Eletise replied, “I know you joking fintisimo… I mean I am Michael Eletise I got u by a mile.”

We say, let’s do it, offense vs. defense, eat off!

Every Tuesday, about five football player besties go to BJ’s to each eat their own Pizookie. A Pizookie is a freshly baked warm cookie in cooked in about a 7″ pan with two scoops of ice cream placed in the middle, melting as it is served. A regular chocolate chip Pizookie is about 1,180 calories and usually, people split it among the guests at the table.

But not this crew, each order his own. Sammy Morrison and Shawn Poindexter along with three others ( Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles we think too) post the ritual on their Instagram Stories each week. I have not yet seen anyone order the Peanut Butter S’Mores Pizookie yes, that dish is 1,500 calories. The BJ’s website notes that 2,000 calories are a normal persons intake for one day or something like that.

Perhaps this crew should invite Michael and Finton next week?

If you are in need of positive messages in your daily lives, if you are a person of faith or would like more in your life, then you need to follow Morrison on Instagram. Every day he posts “What God Taught Me Today.” He is a very spiritual young man and it has helped him recover from injury. He is just pure joy and light and shares it with the world and his teammates.

Finally, we would like to discuss the elevators in Oregon. Shawn Poindexter was looking faintly and sweaty along with Jamie Nunley and about eight other players stuck in the elevator last night, we are thinking in the hotel.

Next. More on Arizona Football from ZZ. dark

We got the confirmation from Eletise’s mom Marie on Instagram, we don’t know if this sign was put up after or before the players got stuck. Thank the lord! We would love feedback on what you all want to know about when it comes to your football team, they are human after all, and Zona Zealots want to see them all successful. Hopefully Wildcats fans will help us by tagging us in social media posts we can use each week, Bear Down!
