Former Arizona Football players made NFL headlines this week: Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles and new Washington Redskins linebacker Marquis Flowers.

We love it when Arizona Football players in the pro’s make news, especially good news! Both Nick Foles and Marquis Flowers made headlines this week.

Philadelphia quarterback Nick Foles got the nod after starter Carson Wentz went down with an injury late in the season. Again! Seems like history repeating itself. Foles led the Eagles to an exciting win (32-30) over Houston last Sunday keeping the Eagles’ in the playoff race. The team’s kicker Jake Elliott’s won the game with a walk-off 35-yard field goal.

Foles threw for 471 yards and four touchdowns, throwing one interception. A field goal in the final minutes clinched the win and the Eagles are still in it. Here is the skinny from Newsweek on how the Eagles can make the playoffs as a Wildcard

More from Cats in the Pros

"The Eagles, second in NFC East behind the phoenix-like 9-6 Cowboys, can still secure a wildcard spot into the NFL playoffs with a win over the 7-8 Washington Redskins on Sunday in Washington at 4:25 p.m. on Fox.The Colts, second in the AFC South behind the 10-5 Houston Texans, play the 9-6 Tennessee Titans in Nashville Sunday starting at 8:20 p.m. EST on NBC’s Sunday Night Football. The Colts, also 9-6, may stand a better chance of winning, but the Eagles seem to be on a tear."

That’s right, the Eagles are on a tear! And one big reason is Foles who won AFC Player of the week honors for his performance against the Texans. Foles has now captured this award for the third time. Here are more fun facts:

  1. His first Player of the Week award was for his seven-touchdown performance against Oakland in 2013.
  2. Foles is the first Eagle to win a Player of the Week honor this season.
  3. He set a franchise record for passing yards in a single game (471 yards, 71% completion).
  4. He tossed four touchdowns (one interception) earned him a120.4 quarterback rating.
  5. The Eagles are 3-1 in games that Foles has started in 2018.

If the Eagles beat Washington Redskins in Washington, and the Bears beat the Vikings in Minnesota, then the Eagles win a playoff berth.

Foles rocked an Arizona Wildcats cap at his press conference on Thursday.

But there is another Wildcat that wants to prove himself and made some headlines this week. Marquis Flowers was just signed to the Washington Redskins squad as an outside linebacker. Flowers will be targeting Foles to show his skills to get a job next season with the Redskins who are out of the playoffs but made some moves this week.

Flowers has been sitting out since being let go from the Detroit Lions in October. He played for the Patriots in the Super Bowl last season and had a pretty productive year logging 32 combined tackles and 3.5 sacks. Flowers played in all 16 regular season games in 2017. His new coach dropped a few players and brought on Flowers to add to the team’s defense.

The Redskins lost quarterback Alex Smith and the team is on their fourth quarterback but still look to bump the Eagles out of the playoffs and end the season on a positive note. They have lost five of their last six games.

Next. New Years Resolutions for Arizona Athletics..... dark

Best case scenario for Wildcats fans and these two beloved players is for Flowers to get a couple sacks and Foles to win the game to move ahead to the playoffs. Let it be so!
