Former Arizona Wildcat and Finnish sensation Lauri Markkanen had one of the most remarkable months of basketball. Time to revist what went down.

The Finnisher. Lauri Markkanen more then lived up to his name during the month of February. On fire, unstoppable, unbelievable, their are many adjectives that can describe what he accomplished. His nickname, The Finnisher, would be a good one as well. The skill level that he displayed was something you don’t see very often, especially by a 7 footer.

At Arizona, it was apparent to most that Markkanen was going to be something real special at the next level. As a Wildcat, he already was a pure shooter from beyond the arc. Yes, he had some work to do when it came to ball handling and dribbling the ball inside the paint at the college level. That hasn’t stopped him though from improving his all around game in the NBA. Making the transition to the NBA hasn’t been too bad for him as he has improved on all facets of his game.

More from Cats in the Pros

This past February it all came together. He set several records, including becoming the first 7 footer ever to make 100 threes in his first two seasons in the NBA. Markkanen also sits at No.3 among all NBA players to consecutively score at least 20 points, grab 9 rebounds and at least one three pointer – he did ten times in a row in February!

What’s even scarier is that this is only his second year in the league and so many years left in his career. Many more records will be set for sure by The Finnisher. How many? Who knows. He will though go down as one the best big man to have played in the NBA.

To start off the month, he had three consecutive 30+ point games, including one game that he also grabbed 18 rebounds. At the end of the month, he scored a career high of 35 points! Someone please get this man a bucket of cold water, he is on fire! For the month he averaged 26 points per game and 12.2 rebounds per game.

Markkanen missed 23 to start the season because of elbow injury, but since then has been dominating. He continues to play the way he has and the Chicago Bulls get some more offensive firepower, they are a force to be reckoned with possibly next season. They are currently 17-45 overall and at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.

At Zona Zealots, we are thrilled that Lauri Markkanen is back and play at such a high level. The Finnisher, knows how to finish buckets, dunks and three’s. Expect to see many more finishes this season and for a long time to come for Markkanen. Bear Down, Arizona!
