ESPN college basketball analysts Jay Bilas and Dick Vitale suggest some coaches should get due process, what about Sean Miller?

Major news broke today as the projected No.1 seed in the 2020 NBA Draft James Wiseman, who plays for the Memphis Tigers, was declared ineligible by the NCAA. He supposedly received financial assistance from the current head coach of Memphis Penny Hardway back in 2017 to help him move him and his family from Nashville to Memphis to play prep ball for Hardway’s team.  ESPN analyst Jay Bilas chimed in on social media and said “coaches get due process.” Really? So the same should be applied to head coach Sean Miller, right?

How ironic is this statement from someone who has always felt Miller has been guilty and should be punished based on hearsay and no actual proof he did anything wrong. Of course, Dick Vitale supported Bilas’s statement. As usual, ESPN has given both free reigns when it comes to statements like this on social media. Where’s the accountability?

Shortly after it was announced that Wiseman would be ineligible, the court decided to allow him to play based on a temporary restraining order. Still, the fact of the matter is a head coach who financially helped a player physically make the move to Memphis to eventually played for his team.

Hardway wasn’t the actual head coach for Memphis at the time, but because he was considered to be a booster to the university, is one the major reasons why this is a serious NCAA violation. But he should still receive due process? That makes no sense.

What does make sense is for Miller to receive due process. What he has had to deal with over the last couple of years is unfair to say the least. Accusations based on false reporting from members of the media. There hasn’t been any actual proof that Miller has done anything wrong. But yet he has received anything but due process.

As a result, it has impacted Arizona Basketball on many levels. From recruiting to the negative image it has put on this program, Miller and his teams have had to deal with much adversity. The sad thing is that it never seems to end.

It’s okay when other head coaches are involved in recruiting scandals, but not Miller for some reason. There is a certain bias the members of the media like Bilas and Vitale have towards Arizona. Why they have it? Who knows. Whatever the reasons may be their actions can’t be justified.
