Arizona Basketball: Wildcats blowout San Jose St by 48 points

Arizona Basketball had no problem taking care of business against San Jose St to improve their record to 3-0, next up New Mexico St.

Another win for Arizona Basketball. After coming off a big win at home against Big 10 opponent Illinois, the Wildcats kept their focus and came away with a massive 48 point win over San Jose St, 87-39. They came out a little slow to start, but in the end, they were too much for the Spartans to handle. The No.1 Kentucky Wildcats may have been upsetted, by Evansville, but not the Arizona Wildcats...they know how to get the job done!

High percentage shooting, limiting turnovers and plenty of assists sum up the first 20 minutes of play. Arizona only had 3 turnovers and had 15 assists. They also had a slight edge on the glass, 25-21 and in bench points as well, 19-12.

Zeke Nnaji led the way in both halves, dropping his second 20+ point game with 26 points,10 rebounds, two assists, and one block. Jumpers, put backs off missed shots, dunks, he was doing it all tonight. On the defensive end as well, he was making himself known.  He couldn’t be stopped and showed why he earned the first-ever Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors.

More from Wildcats Basketball

The Wildcats shot 48.5% from the field and 45.5% from three in the first half. Not too shabby. Devonaire Doutrive, returned to action tonight, making his first appearance early in the first half. He finished the game with 12 points and five rebounds. Having him back adds immediate depth to the backcourt.

In the second half of play, the Spartans made things a little interesting and cut into the Wildcats lead. That didn’t last long though. Arizona went on one of their patented runs, this time it was a 21-0 run to open things up.

Everyone contributed in the second half to give the Wildcats the win. Even though Nico Mannion and Josh Green didn’t have the high scoring production they had the game before, this team quietly worked together and put up 87 points and ran away with this one. All 11 players that played tonight scored! Shows how scary good they are.

Wildcats finished the game, shooting 48% from the field, 44% from three, 8 turnovers, 50 rebounds, 25 points off of turnovers, 42 bench points and 24 assists! Stats like those are why this team is currently ranked No.19 in the country and likely to move in the rankings.

At Zona Zealots, we are excited on well this team is playing early on in the season. There is still plenty of basketball to be played, but things are looking really good for this so far. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
