Jerry Roberts just transferred to Arizona Football for the upcoming football season, and his little brother Jyree Roberts attended the Arizona Football camp for High School players last month.
Jyree Roberts is the younger brother of Arizona Football linebacker Jerry Roberts, who transferred from Bowling Green State, and arrived on campus in Tucson in May. A graduate transfer, Jerry cannot wait to get on the field.
Well, just one month later his little, and that is figurative, brother Jyree traveled from Erie, Pennsylvania for a nice reunion with Jerry, attending Head Coach Jedd Fisch’s football camp for high school players. He enjoyed himself and not only left having a great experience, but he also gained a wealth of knowledge as he participated in the linebacker drills from the UofA coaches to practice on, “I wanted to show the coaches my full potential.”

Jyree’s dad, who lost his girlfriend and the boys’ mom to cancer, is not only a single parent, but he is one of his coaches at Cathedral Prep high school in Pennsylvania.
Roberts, class of 2023 recruit, is a 6-foot-0, 220-pound running back and middle linebacker with a 3.4 GPA. Just 16 years old and going into his Junior year, the year of college offer preparation starts now, and he and his dad are doing whatever is necessary to give Jyree a great chance to get offers.
Jyree tells us that he enjoys the linebacker position the most “Simply because, why take the hit when I can be the one giving the hit?” Smart young man!
Both his brother and father inspire him, “My brother inspires me a lot, he’s been overlooked and doubted throughout the past years of his football career and to see him playing at the University of Arizona is very inspiring to me to go against all odds. My dad has always sacrificed a lot for us to be the best we can be.” He appreciates all the attention.
Football gets Jyree through the tough times because “Football is like therapy, you can let everything out on the field and have no worries while doing it.”
We asked him if he plays other sports, his answer? “No! Football is the only sport I play and to train I get a lot of fieldwork in when I can because we don’t have the best weather up here and other than that I’m in the weight room 5 days a week.”
We asked Jyree what motivates him:
"I’m very coachable and I was also a captain last year for my team. But the thing that motivates me the most is the loss of my mother. She fought cancer for 18 years ending with her passing away three years ago when I was 13 years old."
Losing your mother at such a young age is difficult, so we can only imagine what he has gone through, but his mother also motivates him every day, “Yeah it’s been tough but the thing I remember most about her is how she never gave up on anything. No matter how hard things got she never gave in and she would always say “Team Jy” which is my nickname.”
The youngest Roberts is extremely competitive and wants coaches to know, “What makes me different is my work ethic. I’ll never let anyone outwork me. If someone going to put on 100 pounds I’ll put on 200 just to show them you’ll never outwork me.”
To prepare before his games, Jyree listens to a lot of music and prays, “My favorite artist is Rod Wave but a song that gets me ready is “Pressin” by King Von and Sada Baby.”
Here are Jyree’s sophomore highlights from Cathedral Prep High School:
We wish both Jyree and Jerry the best of luck this upcoming season, and you never know what the future will bring, but he and the family are now Wildcats fans!
