On July 18th, DeVaughn Cooper verbally committed to Arizona.

A few facts to know about him:

  • 3-star Wide Receiver
  • Narbonne High School in Harbor City, California
  • Height: 5-11
  • Weight: 172 pounds

Arizona was first to give DeVaughn an offer, back in April. He got a several other offers from schools like Kansas, Colorado, Michigan and Washington. But from the looks of it, DeVaughn has had his eye on Arizona since his first visit there.

Zona Zealots Editor Shereen Rayan and I got a chance to ask him a few questions and learn more about him.

ZZ: What was your process for choosing Arizona? When did you know it was the school for you?

DeVaughn: My mom and I went down for their recruiting event “the closing” and we both love the campus and the coaches answered all of our questions and informed us on everything about the school. My mother and I agreed it was a perfect fit, plus it’s far enough to get away but close enough to come home.

ZZ: Do you have any pre-game rituals? Any music you listen to?

DeVaughn: I read a little scripture from my mini bible pray to God and listen to various type of hype music before my games.

"The future."

ZZ: What is it about being a wide receiver that you enjoy so much? What will you be working on next year at Narbonne before coming to Arizona?

DeVaughn: I’m just working on my ball skills, route running and releases all year so I can be the best I can for AZ. I am also working on winning a state championship for my school, we have the determination and motivation set.

ZZ: How close did you get last year? What do you think you’ll do differently if anything this year?

DeVaughn: We won our state championship, we just can’t execute some key plays which this year we will have to change and we practice harder than we ever have and it’s so competitive, even on a light practice we all go hard to make ourselves better.

ZZ: What do you look forward to most about coming to school in Arizona? Did you get close to any current Wildcats on your last visit?

DeVaughn: I’m just looking forward to putting on that jersey and playing in the wonderful stadium, and yes I’m close to my teammate Sean Riley fellow commit as well and a friend Khalil Tate who is also an AZ commit.

ZZ: You have any message for your Arizona wildcat fans?

DeVaughn: Just I can’t wait to come to Tucson and play for the city, my mind is made up and I am for sure going to U of A, the fans are amazing and also play a part in my commitment. Beardown.

ZZ: Anything else we missed you want people to know?

DeVaughn: I just want the people of Tucson to know I’m working hard to be the best I can be.

Take a look at some of his highlights from the past year.

Enjoy your senior year, DeVaughn, get ready for Tucson and to BEAR DOWN!
