Arizona Basketball: Savage Life in Full Effect
By David Rosen
Arizona Wildcats basketball has entered a new phase called “Savage Life” inspired by Rawle Alkins high school mantra. It’s catching on and getting trendy on Twitter among players and fans.
Savage Life. What does that mean? Well, the Zona Zealots contributors have all agreed, the best way to describe it is “Brutally Awesome.” As in, Arizona Wildcats have played awesome! (This definition is according to Facebook. There are other multiple meanings, depending on which source you use, but this description fits best).
This motto began to gain momentum after the UCLA win. Rawle Alkins and Lauri Markkanen explain in this video interview:
Not only do they bear down, but they also live that savage life! In the last two games against the UCLA Bruins and Oregon Ducks, they defined what it means to be both “brutal” and “awesome” at the same time.
In both of these games the Wildcats’ attack (both offensively and defensively) was done in a savage life manner:
Lauri Markkanen connected on 3pt shots, with accuracy and precision. Also, this dunk by Markkanen (late in the 2nd half) demonstrates this brutal attack the Cats brought last night. Or using the player’s explanations, they are beasts on the court.

Allonzo Trier’s offensive attack could not be stopped by the Bruins and the Ducks (which earned him the Pac-12 Tournament MOP). Lonzo Ball who?! Which Lonzo reigned supreme in Vegas? Allonzo.

Kadeem Allen lit up the stat sheet in all categories throughout the tournament. He also provided incredible senior leadership in the major moments of both games:
Parker Jackson-Cartwright made some clutch 3 point shots throughout the tournament and delivered pinpoint passes to his teammates – like this one to Rawle Alkins, that lead to this savage dunk:

Dusan Ristic found nothing but the bottom of the net with his inside floaters and finishes like this:
Keanu Pinder ferociously grabbed the ball out of the Bruins hands:
Chance Comanche was a beast inside with rebounds and this dunk:
Rawle Alkins, the leader of the “Savage Life Movement,” shut down the Bruins attack. Plus, he spun his way to the basket – what a savage!
Let’s not forget coach Sean Miller with the ‘.09-second’ timeout — now that’s savage!

Here are some of the Wildcat players reactions to a savage life:
The Wildcats statement win over the Ducks in the Pac-12 Championship final left everyone feeling like this:
These two games, against the Bruins and Ducks, were great examples of this savage life and the entire season. They endured many obstacles and then finished the season at 29-4, co-Pac-12 champions, then Pac-12 tourney champs and a No.2 Seed in the West- that’s savage!
