Dominating! That is how the Arizona Wildcats softball team’s season has been so far. The stats they have put up this season have been incredible. From pitching to hitting and defense, these Lady Cats have been putting on quite the show.
Against the No. 6 ranked Washington Huskies things were no different. They out-hit the Huskies 31-6 and outscored them 20-2. Keep in mind, entering this series the Huskies averaged almost eight runs per game and had a batting percentage of almost .360. What the Wildcats have been able to do against the Huskies is just mind-blowing!
In the opening game against Huskies, Danielle O’Toole threw her first no-hitter – way to go Tooley! Tamera Statman had two hits and a home run. Mo Mercado and Reyna Carrano provided the Wildcats with multiple hits. Wildcats won 3-0.
The second game of the series, the Wildcats continued their dominating performance with a 12-0 win in the fifth inning (mercy rule being applied). They scored eight runs in the first inning, and the Wildcats never looked back. Alyssa Palomino and Dejah Mulipola led the offensive with multiple hits and RBIs. Taylor McQuillin had a strong showing, pitching a complete game and allowed only two hits and had five strikeouts.

The third game of the series, the Wildcats offensive show occurred in the fourth and fifth inning. Mercado, Palomino both homered, and Jessie Harper drove in a run as well.
O’Toole pitched a solid game and allowed only three hits. The defense made a lot of key plays to limit the Husky offensive as well. With this win, coach Mike Candrea won his 1,500th game. Way to go coach! He is second in wins to Michigan coach Carol Hutchins (who holds the current win record at 1,504 games).
The No. 5th ranked Wildcats are now 32-1 on the season, on a 17 game winning streak and undefeated at home. Now that’s what I am talking about!
