Shannon Evans says ASU is the best team the in Pac-12, Wildcats fans react
Arizona Basketball is still ranked No.1 in the Pac-12 Conference as the Wildcats travel to Washington to take on the Huskies and the Cougars.
While Arizona Basketball is still ranked No. 1 in the Pac-12, Arizona State University is currently ranked No. 7 in the Pac-12 with a 4-5 record. Senior ASU guard Shannon Evans made a surprising statement today. Shane Dale tweeted out a video interview of Evans at 3:37 pm today where he talked about his view of his team and that thought that ASU is the best team in the Pac-12.
“Honestly I think we’re the best team in the Pac-12,” explained Evans, “I mean you can say there’s standings and all that, but we know we did non-conference, we had the conference down, for real for real. If it wasn’t for us (in the) non-conference, the Pac-12 is nothing — I mean we feel like we’re the best team and we gotta prove it.” Check the reaction of the guy in green in the background.
ASU head coach Bobby Hurley may agree with his senior. He just feels that Sean Miller and the Wildcats have won their close games and the Sun Devils have lost close games so possibly inferring that the teams are more alike than one would think. “Arizona is sitting at the top, but they have had to fight to win a lot of their games just like we have,” said Hurley to Dale. He feels a lot of their games have mirrored his team’s games, but attributes Arizona’s wins to coaching.

If you look at the overall record of the teams as a ranking, Arizona will come in at No. 1 at 18-4, and ASU would come in at No. 3 at 16-5 with USC at No. 2 overal and in the Pac-12 at 17-6, 8-2. The Wildcats are 12-0 at home, and on a six-game winning streak and ASU is 10-2 at home and just started a one-game win streak. The Nation has Deandre Ayton fever, and with Rawle Alkins back in the line-up, and seniors Parker Jackson-Cartwright and Dusan Ristic feeling confident, there is no ceiling for the Wildcats down the stretch. Add in there the emergence of Dylan Smith, Brandon Randolph, and Ira Lee, the list of plusses keeps growing for the Cats.
The Sun Devils have only one more loss than the Cats, true, but they have two fewer wins as well. Maybe Evans has a point, but there is no way on earth that Wildcats fans were going to let him get away with a statement like that without a rebuttal. So far there are 91 replies to Dale’s tweet with his comments. Most responses came in gifs, but the ZonaZoo had something to say about it:

If you want to help the team, show up to games and do what Miller taught the Zona Zoo to do last week:
