Arizona Basketball recruit Brandon Williams will make his decision public live at the BallisLife All-American game on May 5th, he is still deciding.

It has been a roller coaster ride for both Arizona Basketball and for Brandon Williams and his family. From very early in his high school career he had his heart and soul set on playing in McKale for Wildcats fans. He never wavered. His family wanted him to hold off on committing, to go on more visits, to see and hear what other coaches had to offer the talented point guard. And that, unfortunately for Arizona has come to be a reality.

Williams has stayed as true as any young recruit can under a ton of pressure. He lasted as far as he realistically could until Shareef O’Neal de-committed after ESPN’s Mark Schlabach came out with a report that most at his company and fans of other schools took as fact regarding Sean Miller and Deandre Ayton. The report later was determined by ESPN to be incorrect as far as dates and such, and still no apologies from ESPN.

The damage was done, and anyone in Brandon’s shoes would take the opportunity to explore other options. The best part of all of it was that Arizona still remained in his top three schools. There is still a chance he could recommit to Arizona. It has been done before. Wildcats fans, against an NCAA policy which cannot be regulated now on the internet, have been showing their support for Williams on Twitter.

There may have been a few fans who have dropped off the Williams wagon, but not many.

Over the course of a month or so, Williams decided to focus on two other programs; Gonzaga and Oregon. Both teams have legendary coaches, both teams have a huge fan base, and both schools have made it to the Final Four under the current coaches. He can’t go wrong with any school he chooses frankly.

Williams talked to me last night about his visits to the other schools, and he really did his homework:

Since Williams opened his recruitment, a lot of chips have fallen in Arizona’s lap. Devonaire Doutrive, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard committed to the Wildcats, as well as 6-foot-7 small forward Omar Thielemans (Belgium). Then Miller and Phelps landed Pitt grad transfer Ryan Luther (6-foot-9, 225 lbs) and Stamford grad transfer Justin Coleman, who are both very excited about becoming a Wildcat.

With Brewster Academy center Lukas Kisunas from Lithuania committing to Stanford over Arizona, that leaves Brandon Williams and Jordan Brown (Cal, Nevada, Arizona in Top 3) as possible additions to Millers 2018 Arizona incoming player list. Brown backed out of the Ballislife All-American game due to a hand injury according to officials which was disappointing because we wanted to get to know him better.

Arizona is still in the mix for Williams:

Williams, with his family, will take the next day and night to discuss the pros and cons of each college he will possibly commit to on Saturday, May 5th at the Ballislife All-American game.
