Gunnell, if you haven’t been paying attention is a Top 100 player in the Nation, and is listed as the No. 3 pro-style quarterback in the class of 2019 according to 247Sports. A former commit to Kevin Sumlin while at Texas A&M, Gunnell has since de-committed with the Aggies, and is considering the Wildcats.
As we highlighted last week, it appeared the Wildcats were gaining some momentum for the four-star rated quarterback. Apparently, his relationship with Sumlin and Offensive Coordinator Noel Mazzone is a lot stronger than we initially thought!
Despite numerous offers from schools like; Ohio State, LSU, UCLA and Oregon among others, the Wildcats have a fighting chance in this one!
On Tuesday, it was announced Arizona is actually in his list of final schools!
Perhaps even more surprising? According to his profile on 247Sports, Arizona has a 45 percent chance of landing Gunnell, Ohio State just 21 percent and LSU seven percent. The percentage of course, is decided by the predictions of recruiting analysts from 247.
Could Arizona perhaps be getting a commitment soon? One could only hope, as the magnitude of getting a commitment from Gunnell would potentially give a huge boost to Arizona in recruiting.
Not to mention the highly touted recruits this could possibly attract too!
Gunnell possesses all the intangibles you could want in a quarterback! Big frame, big arm, accurate, quick decision making, everything!
His stats at the perennially talented St. Pius X High School in Houston, TX speak for themself! In 2017, Gunnell threw for 4,936 yards, with 61 passing touchdowns, to just six interceptions. He also added another 390 yards on the ground with eight touchdowns.
