Arizona Football Picked to Finish Third in Pac-12 South
With the Conference Media Day already over, selections are in, as the Arizona Football team was picked to finish third in the Pac-12 South.
Hollywood, CA- It’s the return of the Pac-12 Media Day! The Arizona Football season is nearly here, and during the annual event, Kevin Sumlin, Khalil Tate and Colin Schooler were in attendance in representation for the Wildcats.
Heading into 2018, there is plenty of hype, and as the three addressed a barrage of questions from the media, we got a sense of what to expect this coming season. But first let’s recap 2017.

Last season was an interesting one to say the least. The Wildcats certainly surprised many by winning seven games and earning a Bowl game appearance after being picked to finish sixth in the Pac-12 South.
However, four losses in the last five games caused some uncertainty with the coaching staff, and a former head coach Rich Rodriguez was ultimately let go due to ‘direction and climate’ of the program.
However, it is a new year and with Wildcats returning quite a bit of talent on offense and defense, the sky is the limit. Granted a lot of Arizona’s success this year hinges on the play of Tate as well as the defense.
Tate definitely commanded a lot of the attention on Wednesday, and rightfully so, as the junior-to-be took over college football by storm last season. This year, the pressure is on as to whether he can replicate his success.
The addition of Sumlin and Noel Mazzone will undoubtedly help, but if he can at least duplicate or even surpass his production, Arizona will be a dangerous team.
On the defensive side of the ball, Schooler will be a part of a dominating, but young linebacking group that will have an even bigger impact in 2018.
Arizona’s schedule lines up favorable, as the Wildcats will host USC and Oregon (arguably their two, toughest games), and will completely miss Stanford and Washington this year.
With the schedule and the talent they have returning, that’s why many are picking the Wildcats to finish third in the Pac-12 South. USC and Utah came in at first and second respectively in the Preseason Media Poll.
We may be a bit biased, but the predictions seem to be pretty fair. Arizona definitely has potential, but the Wildcats do need a few things to go their way, and as said before, the Wildcats will go as far as Tate and the defense allows them to!
At Zona Zealots, we are excited for the return of Arizona Football and can’t wait to see how the Wildcats perform in 2018. Hopefully it’s higher than third in the Pac-12 South! Bear Down, Arizona!
