Arizona Basketball: Boosters come to the support of Sean Miller

Sean Miller has been a hot topic for the past year ever since the report broke that he might have been part of a pay to play program which included the names of DeAndre Ayton (later to be debunked by the media). The evidence continues to stack against Sean Miller as two of his top assistant coaches by names of Book Richardson and Mark Phelps were fired by the University of Arizona for not adhering to rules and polices set by the NCAA.

This false report from ESPN’s Mark Schlabauch also brought an onslaught attack from the national media including our beloved (wink wink) Dick Vitale who is still on his twitter rant which calls for the firing of Sean Miller. Even through all of this, Sean Miller gained support from some of the most important people at the University just this week. The assumption has been that Arizona brass know what evidence does or does not exist and feel comfortable supporting Miller.

As a fan of the Wildcats basketball program, it is easy to fall into the media trap that is calling for the firing of Sean Miller and the hiring of rumored replacement Luke Walton who seems to be staying in the NBA coaching the LeBron-led Lakers. Through it all though, the boosters at the University of Arizona came to support of Sean Miller just like Dave Heeke did just over a year ago. Heeke, and it was reported that the boosters are also supporting Miller to stay as coach of Arizona Basketball due to the success that he has had over the years.

After all that has happened so far and the potential of receiving even more punishment from the NCAA after their investigation of the program, why would the boosters come to the support of Sean Miller?

There are many reasons why the booster at the University would want to support Coach Miller. Over the course of this season Miller, with a ton of help from Phelps, has brought in many talented players. Many of them are carrying on the tradition of being a Wildcat in the NBA including the likes of Stanley Johnson, Andre Iguodala, Lauri Markennan, Aaron Gordon, Allonzo Trier and even undrafted fan favorite TJ McConnell.

Along with his track record of taking team to the NCAA tournament in March. Even though Sean Miller has not made a Final Four yet he has brought teams to the brink of greatness by reaching the elite eight. Not to mention slaying many top teams along the way including the Duke Blue Devils where Derrick Williams put on a show like no other with highlight dunk after highlight dunk.

Sean Miller has also done his work outside of the McKale Center as he continues to boast a top recruiting class for 2019. Which include two MacDonald’s All-American in Nico Mannion and Josh Green. Who will also be accompanied by the likes of Zeke Nnaji, Terry Armstrong and seven footer Christian Koloko. The chances of Coach Miller reaching his first final four are looking up heading into next year.

It is safe to say the Sean Miller has many reasons to why he should stick around from post season appearances, sending players to the NBA and bringing in the top high school talent in the country to the University of Arizona.
