It was snowing in Tucson Friday morning and the Arizona Football team thoroughly enjoyed the morning.

News 4 Tucson (KVOA) proclaimed, “The Old Pueblo is officially a snow city!” According to the Charlotte Observer, Measurable snow has only fallen twice since weather records began in 1877. The first snowfall was recorded on January 15, 1932, and the second took place on January 9, 1949. In addition, a trace fell on two days in January 1962.

Here we are 57 years later and a full coat of snow fell all over Arizona. Tucson residents, and especially the Arizona Football team couldn’t have been more delighted.

An inch and a half of snow don’t seem like much to many on the East Coast, but for quite a few football players on campus, it was their first time seeing and playing in the snow. The Tucson Airport stayed open and paid more attention to possible icing on the planes. The pass to Mt. Lemon was closed.

More from Wildcats Basketball

As reports started coming in, Football players went live from the Arizona Football Stadium on the field many in shorts and shirtless. Devaughn Cooper was first to broadcast live and he caught the start of a snowball fight. Maurice Gaines had never seen snow either, he posted his experience on Instagram, “This Sh*t can’t be real!” It was fun to watch.

Then the Arizona Football coaches showed up and started drills. By then, Snow was coming down hard and the social media folks started taping the workout.

It is a quite the glorious and wonderful site to see as snow piled up on cars, cacti, and palm trees with snow on them. Then you add Old Main covered in snow with a snowman formed on the lawn in front, and you have the perfect picture for the record books. The Coaches had a ball with the snow as well, here are a few Tweets.

Thank goodness the indoor field is almost done!

Snow Day wasn’t just noticed by the Football team, the basketball team chimed in as well. Justin Coleman also posted a video while strolling through campus with a big smile, Ira Lee posted a comment on Instagram about not signing up for snow in Tucson, and Brandon Williams posted a photo of a snow-covered car. We just hope it won’t be another 50 years before we can enjoy watching the Wildcats play in the snow.
