Arizona Wildcat freshman Brandon Williams earned Pac-12 All Freshman Honorable Mention honors in the Pac-12 2018-19 Postseason Awards.

What a story. In his first year at Arizona, Brandon Williams was one the bright spot for this team. Being the Arizona Wildcats only five-star recruit, he more then lived up to his expectations. It’s been a transition for him, like any player out of high school, with the speed and physically that the college game brings. That being said, Williams finally began to find his groove even though he faced some adversity during the Pac-12 season.

That adversity was in the form of re-injuring his right knee and missing six games. That didn’t stop him from leaving it all out on the floor once he got back into action. Those six games he was out, all during Pac-12 play, Williams presence was missed. His ball handling skills, plus his ability to drive and shoot the three made him a valuable asset to this team.

Early on in the season, he had missed some easy layups, but before you know it he got the hang of it and was putting up solid stats. Do want to point out here, for those that may know what “jelly” is, that’s when you put a little extra spin on the ball when finishing a layup and do it in style. Williams did that a few times this season – put some jelly on that BWill!!

More from Wildcats Basketball

For the season, which is not yet over with the Wildcats facing off against the USC Trojans in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament, Williams averaged 11.3 points per game, 2.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. The one stat that stood out early was in the first three games of the season, in which he started Williams did not have a single turnover. That says a lot about his understanding of the game and his willingness to take care of the ball on every possession.

His season high came against UTEP, where he dropped 21 points. In the 25 games Williams played, he scored in double digits in 16 of those games. If he was able to stay injury free this season, the Wildcats Pac-12 overall record would have been much different.

For his efforts, which is more deserved, Williams earned himself Pac-12 All Freshman Honorable Mention honors in the Pac-12 2018-19 Postseason Awards. Williams was the only Wildcat to earn any recognition. Just wait till next season, the Wildcats are taking back over!

At Zona Zealots, we are so happy for Brandon Williams! Being named one of the top freshman in the Pac-12 it was quite an honor.  And it was quite an honor watching him play this year. We look forward to many more exciting BWill highlights to come in the following season. Bear Down, Arizona!
