The Arizona Basketball non-conference schedule is set and includes solid competition, headlined by the Gonzaga Bulldogs.

New season upon us. The 2018-19 season is in the past and ahead for Arizona Basketball is a new season filled with high expectations and exciting moments. Having a strong Pac-12 showing is important, but just as important, if not more so is the non-conference season. The Wildcats will be playing against solid competition, including Gonzaga.

A little over 3 months away before Arizona basketball is back in action inside McKale Center. Wildcat fans will get a preview of what to expect this upcoming season with the annual Red-Blue game on Sept.27. I do want to mention that I have been to a couple of these recently, you don’t want to miss out! It’s your chance to see them live in action if you don’t have season tickets or normally watch at home or at bar.

More from Arizona Wildcats

Last season, the Wildcats finished the non-conference season at 9-4, including wins over Iowa St in the Maui Invitational (who made it to the NCAA tournament) and a win over Connecticut on the road. One of those other teams they faced in the Maui Invitational was Gonzaga. They took the lead late in the first half, building a 13 point lead in the second half before Chase Jeter got a technical foul and fouled out with about 12 minutes to go. Gonzaga would go on to win 91-74.

Jeter and the Wildcats will have revenge on their mind as they look to close out the non-conference schedule with a win over Gonzaga on Dec.14. This season, they will also be taking part in the Wooden Legacy Tournament in Anaheim, which includes such teams as Providence and Wake Forest. Being on state away, Wildcat fans will be out their supporting their team as they always do!

The other headline team that this team will face is against Baylor on the road, who made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament before losing to Gonzaga. They are another solid team that the Wildcats will need take seriously, especially with it being on the road.  These two teams last faced each other last season with Baylor winning 58-49.

Even though there are teams during the non-conference season that aren’t top ranked, the Wildcats will need to remain 100% focused from beginning to end. They can’t take anything for granted and expect to win every game. The good old adage of one game at a time is the mindset this team needs to have. Having a successful October, November and December plays a big factor in how a team is seeded for the NCAA Tournament.
