Arizona Basketball incoming freshman sensation, Nico Mannion, named Arizona boys basketball Player of the Year.

Five-star incoming freshman for Arizona Basketball and one of the best point guards in the country, Nico Mannion, was named Arizona boys basketball Player of the Year for a second year in a row! Back in March he was one of eight finalists to receive the award. After several months it’s official, he’s the best in Arizona!

Having already won Gatorade Player of the Year for a second and helping Pinnacle High School win back to back state championship, Mannion now gets to add this latest accolade for a second time to his young basketball career. See a common theme here? His high school, Charlie Wilde, went on to win boys basketball coach of the year. Maybe this is a sign of things to come at Arizona?

More from Wildcats Basketball

In his senior year at Pinnacle Mannion averaged 30.4 points per game, 6.2 assists per game and 6.2 rebounds per game. His game improved year after year at Pinnacle, which shows the work and dedication he puts into his game. What’s even more of a remarkable stat is he averaged almost 50% shooting from the field while at Pinnacle.

Since he signed to be part of Arizona Basketball back in November, he has been dedicating himself to be one of the best players in college basketball this upcoming season. From playing in the McDonald’s All-American Game, Nike Hoops Summit and putting reps in the gym, Mannion is ready to dominate!

Here he is preparing for Arizona Basketball with elite skills trainer Vaughn Compton.:

Mannion has the whole package. He shoots the ball from all over the court with extreme confidence, elite ball handling skills, excellent court aware and vision, got the hops, plays solid defense and has a great personality! There are so many great qualities about Mannion, I could go on and on.

Another factor that I don’t think is getting enough attention is how much he loves Arizona and how he wants to bring back those winnings ways to Tucson. His style of play of wanting to get up and down the court is going to fit in perfectly! Coach Miller will look to him as a key contributor to this team.
