Arizona Basketball: Lorenzo Romar faces off against Sean Miller in the Wooden Legacy
By David Rosen
Arizona Basketball will be facing off against the Pepperdine Waves in the opening round of the Wooden Legacy.
Former associate head coach of Arizona Basketball Lorenzo Romar will be facing off against Sean Miller in the opening round of the Wooden Legacy on Nov. 28th, which happens to be Thanksgiving! On the day on which we are thankful for what we, each team will be looking to give their fans something to be thankful for – a win!
The last time these two teams met was back in 2001 with the Wildcats winning 94-71. Overall, Arizona Basketball leads the head to head match up 5-0. Each time they have met, the Wildcats have dominated the Waves except for in 1987 when the Wildcats only won by 5, but they did win by 45 back in 1977. Talk about crushing those Waves!
Last season, the Waves had a disappointing season finishing 16-18 overall and 6-10 in the WCC. It was Romar’s first year as head coach, but it’s just a matter of time before he brings the Waves back to the top of WCC. He’s that good of a head coach.
More from Wildcats Basketball
- Arizona Basketball likely to schedule Florida Atlantic for 2023
- Rondae Hollis-Jefferson’s FIBA World Cup performance is reminiscent of Kobe Bryant’s

- Reflections on the Pac-12, the Arizona Wildcats, and other memories
Over the course of 15 seasons at Washington, he had an overall record of 298-195 and 143-127 in the Pac-12. He led the Huskies to five NCAA Tournament appearances, including three trips to the Sweet 16. Also during his tenure, the Huskies had four Pac-12 regular season titles and three Pac-12 Tournament titles.
This upcoming season, the Waves will be bringing back their two leading scorers in Colbey Ross and Kameron Edwards. As a team, they averaged 72.7 points per game compared to the Wildcats who averaged 69.0 per game last season.
This time around, the Wildcats are more athletic and have players that are legit shooters an scorers. The Wildcats also have the advantage down low due to the Waves being undersized.
The Wildcats will likely win this one and should have no problem moving on in the tournament. They will though need to take nothing for granted as the Waves will be playing with nothing to lose as all the pressure falls on the Wildcats. High percentage shooting, taking care of the ball and rebounding will be keys to victory in this matchup.
The winner will face the winner between UCF and Penn State in the semifinal. On the other side of the bracket has Providence, Long Beach State, Wake Forest and College of Charleston. Arizona is a sure favorite in this one and would build their confidence heading into the Pac-12 tournament.
At Zona Zealots, we are excited about former Wildcat Lorenzo Romar facing Miller in this Thanksgiving Day matchup. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
