Wildcats fans love to get more information on their future commits, but when they get to find out about their highest ranked stars, that’s even better. Meet your future Arizona corner Greg Johnson.

Greg Johnson is a four-star athlete/cornerback out of Hawkins High School in Los Angeles, CA. He is 5-foot-11 183 pounds and boy does he leave his defenders in the dust after he makes an interception. He seems to burst out of the swarm of defenders towards the end zone on many occasions.

Johnson has been offered by more than 21 schools including Alabama, Ole Miss, seven Pac-12 schools including USC, UCLA, Washington and Cal, Notre Dame and Michigan. Johnson chose Arizona early this year in March! And he is great at recruiting, he’s the Kobi Simmons of football this season.

Greg ranks as the No. 12 overall football player in the state of California and No. 7 in the Nation according to ESPN. Above him in ranking in the Sunshine State are three USC commits, one each to Alabama, Miami, UCLA, Ohio State, Sanford and three undecided recruits who all have offers from Arizona. Those recruits are No. 7 Darnay Holmes (Calabasas, CA), No. 9 Thomas Graham Jr and No. 3 Joseph Lewis, Johnson’s Hawkins teammate.

Hawkins high school beat rival Dorsey last Thursday, October 13th at home in Downtown Los Angeles 24-21. In attendance were Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh, USC Head Coach Clay Helton and Arizona Defensive coach Donte’ Williams. The showing of coaches as this game is a testament to these talented Hawkins Boys.

Greg told me he will play cornerback on the Wildcats defense in 2017. He is also planning on bringing his No. 1 ESPN ranked 5-star teammate WR Jalen Hall (class of 2018) with him on a visit to Tucson. The two practice against each other and it helps both of them be the best they can be.

The more I read about Johnson, the more I couldn’t wait to go watch Johnson in action. I picked the Locke home game because Locke used to be a huge powerhouse in Los Angeles. This is no longer the case sadly. Johnson’s Hawks laid out several Locke Saints on the field for extended lengths of time. One athlete even went home in an ambulance (this isn’t a joke.)

Since the score was a bit lopsided and the injuries on the Locke team were mounting, Hawkins coaches agreed to play their two’s and three’s for practice.

While Johnson and his fellow one’s were resting, I got a chance to find out more about this future Wildcat, why he chose Arizona, how devoted he is or not to the school and what makes him such an explosive cornerback.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WTH GREG JOHNSON:

Other teams coaches would not have done this, as you could see if you checked out the scores around Southern California. That says something about Hawkins coaches integrity.

It’s frustrating for Hawkins though, they want to be playing the most competitive teams in the nation. Greg and team will get their chance against Dorsey in a couple of weeks.

Wildcats fans should look forward to a great future of successes from their football team, keep this type of talent and humble sincere personality players coming!

Greg is most definitely committed to be a Wildcats. If you hear Johnson went on a visit to other schools, it is because it is wise for all athletes to make sure they have options should any unforeseen issues arise. Stay tuned for interviews with more of Greg’s Hawkins Boys, including an interview with Joseph ‘Jodie’ Lewish! BEARDOWN!
