Arizona Basketball received some interesting news as four-star recruit of 2020 Puff Johnson is not reclassifying for 2019.
Arizona Basketball still has not received a commit for the Class of 2020 but did receive some interesting news. Four-star small forward Puff Johnson will not be reclassifying for 2019 and will remain in the class of 2020. Might be a sign of good things to come for Arizona.
As previously reported, there was much speculation around what he might due as a result of being denied an extra year of eligibility at Moon High School. He’s decided to take the option of not appealing and won’t be able to play basketball his senior year. This decision though does have an impact for Arizona Basketball recruiting.
According to 247 Sports Crystal Ball Predictions, Arizona is the favorite at 80% and North Carolina is at 20%. Ironically enough his brother, Cam Johnson, played for the Tarheels and was drafted into the 2019 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns. How sweet that would be for him to choose Arizona over UNC!

The other two top schools in the running for Johnson: Norte Dame and Pittsburgh. Interesting to see three east coast schools vs one west coast school as his top choices. Another example of Sean Miller above average recruiting abilities.
Johnson reclassifying to 2020 puts Arizona in a good spot. With the current roster pretty much set for the 2019-20 season, we know that the Wildcats will be looking to fill some gaps on the inside come the 2020-21 season.
Chase Jeter and Stone Getttings will be gone, but Ira Lee, Christian Koloko and Zeke Nnaji will be likely returning for another season (Zeke may test the NBA waters). Having just maybe three big men for the following season, Miller will need some additional depth in the frontcourt and Johnson would be a perfect fit for that role.
We’ve mentioned it before, but playing time and one’s role on the team is a huge factor when a player like Johnson is deciding where to go. His versatility and athleticism make him a valuable asset to any team he joins. We hope it’s Arizona!
At Zona Zealots, we are excited about the possibility of Puff Johnson becoming a member of Arizona Basketball. For now, we’ll all have to just wait patiently and see where he decides to play college basketball. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
