Arizona Basketball recruit Harrison Hornery out of Mater Dei will plan on visiting Arizona in the next couple of months.

Arizona Basketball recruiting efforts continue to pay off as Class of 2021 center from Mater Dei Harrison Hornery indicates he will be visiting Arizona in the next few months. He isn’t the only player out of Mater Dei that Arizona is pursuing. One of the top point guards for the Class of 2021 Devin Askew is a priority for Arizona and a teammate of Hornery as well.

According to 247 Sports, Hornery is listed as a three-star, but because it’s very early in the recruiting process, he will likely have a chance to move into the four-star status. He has the potential to be one of the top big men for the Class of 2021 if he puts in the work. A big man who has a lot of upside, smart move by the Arizona coaching staff.

Hornery is the first listed center the Wildcats have offered for 2021. At  6 foot 9 and 210 pounds, he is a little undersized as a true center, plays more like a small or power forward. With his shooting abilities, he has the versatility to step back and knock the three down or drive inside for the layup.

More from Basketball Recruiting

In his sophmore season with the varisty Mater Dei squad, Hornery averaged 11.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. He also plays for the West Coast Elite AAU team, in which he has averaged 10.36 points, and 3.14 rebounds per game during the 2019-20 season.

Hornery has received offers from three other schools including Arizona: California, Georgia Tech and USC. Playing on the west coast, not surprising to see other Pac-12 schools getting involved.

There are many things to like about his game, including his confidence from behind the arc and not being afraid to finish strong at the rim. For someone of his body frame, he will need to bulk up. Plus, Hornery will need to work on his ball-handling skills and develop his inside game. Although the trend seems to be with big man these days is to shoot the three, not the two. Still, something he will need to work on.
