Arizona Basketball: Arizona makes big time center Dawson Garcia’s Top Seven
By David Rosen
Arizona Basketball makes another final list, this time it’s Class of 2020 center Dawson Garcia who has Arizona in his Top 7.
Arizona Basketball continues to pound the recruiting pavement and it’s paying off. One of the top big men for the Class of 2020, Dawson Garcia announced his Final 7 and Arizona made the cut! The only Pac-12 school to make the list, the Wildcats are looking to build out strong incoming classes for the future.
The other six schools that made his final list of choices are North Carolina, Memphis, Indiana, Kansas Jayhawks, Marquette and of course Minnesota. Being a native of Minnesota it makes complete sense they made the list. Recruiting in-state is crucial to a program’s long term success. It’s an easy sell plus they would have been the most familiar with his playing background.
Arizona knows a thing or two about recruiting out of state though. They even have one of the top players from the state of Minnesota on their squad, Zeke Nnaji. According to 247 Sports Crystal Picks, there is no clear favorite, with Marquette possibly being a 50% choice.
Listed as a 6 foot 11 and 220 center, he is scary good. Garcia’s body frame and style of play remind you a little bit of Lauri Marrkanen. He has the ability to step back and shoot the three with ease but can also create his own shot in multiple ways inside the paint.

Garcia would complement the current big men at Arizona who will likely be staying next season and those joining. With the departure of Chase Jeter, that would open up playing time for Garcia. He possibly could be a starter alongside Ira Lee and Nnaji. If not a starter, he would be a strong bench performer. Talk about having depth in the frontcourt!
Plus Garcia is a lefty! His ability to go strong to his left, but also to his right makes him a tough guard. The Wildcats have had some great lefties, such as Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Salim and Damon Stoudamire, who have all gone one to have remarkable college and professional playing careers.
Garcia has so much to offer mainly because of his versatility:
At Zona Zealots, we are excited to see Arizona Basketball make another final list for an elite player, such as Dawson Garcia. It says a lot about Sean Miller and his recruiting abilities. As always, Bear Down Arizona!
