Arizona Basketball recruiting continues to do work as it was recently announced that one of the top transfers, Patrick Tape, has Arizona in his Top 3.

Top 3. One of the top transfers available for next season, Patrick Tape, has Arizona Basketball in his Top 3 list of schools. The other two schools are Virginia Tech and USC. Head coach Sean Miller knows a thing or two about recruiting top quality transfers, could Tape be the next great transfer to join the program?

Tape has played three seasons for Columbia in the Ivy League and has decided to redshirt and become a graduate transfer for the 2020-21 season. At Columbia, he played in 69 games, averaged 17.7 minutes per game, 6.9 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game. His freshman season he didn’t start a single game, but the last two seasons he started in all but six games.

Listed at 6 foot 10 and 220 pounds, Tape has the perfect body frame for a forward, who can pound the ball and handle a little contact. Currently, the Wildcats have a few players like, especially Ira Lee, who has a similar body frame and adds strength and size in the frontcourt.

The transition from the Ivy League to potentially the Pac-12 would be a slight adjustment due to the level of competition, but someone of Tape’s athleticism wouldn’t be too much of an issue. Current Wildcat Stone Gettings, who transferred from Cornell, has transitioned well this season and has made an impact. Unfortunately, he is still out with a facial fracture, but hopefully, he comes back soon.

When watching Tape play, the first player that comes to mind is Ira Lee. Both players have similar styles on both ends of the court. He likes to dunk, rebound and make his physical presence known. So does Ira.

If the Wildcats were able to land Tape, he would be an immediate impact player in the frontcourt, alongside Lee and Koloko. He could possibly even be a starter next season depending on who is returning and joining the team next season.

At Zona Zealots, we are excited about the possibility of Patrick Tape choosing to play for Arizona Basketball next season. As always, Bear Down Arizona!
