One of the top priorities for Arizona Basketball, Devin Askew, verbally announced he will be going to Kentucky, should Arizona fans be worried?

Kentucky. That was the school, Devin Askew, the No.1 point guard for the class of 2021, who may be reclassifying to 2020 chose. Arizona Basketball was in the Final 4 list of schools, but Askew decided to take his talents to Kentucky. He was one of the top priorities for the Sean Miller, and with him choosing elsewhere should Wildcat fans now worry?

The answer to that question is no. Fans should not be worried at all. It’s easy for the immediate reaction to be upset about Askew not choosing Arizona, but looking at the big picture for the 2020 and 2021 there is plenty of talent still available.

Askew last minute did decide to attend the Red and Blue game as an unofficial visit but apparently wasn’t enough to convince him to choose Arizona. For someone of his caliber to consider coming to Tucson says a lot about what this program has to offer. Player development, fans that are passionate about the program and success Arizona has had are reasons why elite talent commit.

More from Basketball Recruiting

Did the NCAA investigation possibly impact Askew decision? Did he possibly not see himself getting the playing time and role he would want if were to join Arizona? These are just some example of what could have impacted his choice of Kentucky over Arizona.

Even without Askew, the Wildcats will hopefully have Brandon Williams returning next season at the point guard position. Plus, there are other players such as Devonaire Doutrive that can fill into the one position. There are still many options for Arizona over the next couple of years.

Not having an elite player join the team isn’t the end of the world. It certainly does help a program, but as long as there is depth and experience on the roster that’s what truly matters, both of which Arizona will have next season.

Let us not forget too that there is plenty of 2020 and 2021 recruits that Arizona has offered that have yet to choose a school yet. Players such as Adam Miller, Kerwin Walton and Isael Silva to name a few that are solid at the guard position. Walton and Silva actually did attend the Red and Blue game, so that’s a good sign.

Wildcat fans should never doubt Miller and his recruiting abilities. The players he has brought in over the last 10 years says it all. At Zona Zealots, we are not worried at all about the future of Arizona Basketball. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
