Whatever the trend is, so goes the University of Arizona sports, as cardboard cutouts of fans are now for sale at McKale Center and for Arizona Basketball.

There are so many serious things to write about these days, but with the Arizona Basketball season just around the corner, I thought it would be fun to suggest some Cardboard Cutouts that belong in the stands at the games this season.

As we are all familiar with by now, it is that fans still are not allowed in games, well at least not until January potentially. So as a response the Athletic Department announced that they would be now selling cardboard cutouts for Wildcats fans to purchase for the 2020-21 season.

The debut for the UofA was last weekend as Arizona Football showed a ton of heart as they almost beat the USC Trojans. And in the stands were Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Rob Gronkowski, NFL Analyst for ESPN Tedy Bruschi, and Chicago Bears QB Nick Foles.

The deadline to purchase your cutouts for the first game of the season is Thursday, Nov. 19, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. MST.

For those unaware, the school is selling three types of Wildcats fans cutouts to purchase:

  • McKale Cutout — $65 each
  • ZonaZoo Student — $40 each, located in the ZonaZoo section
  • ZonaZoo Pet Zoo — $65 each, a section for fans’ pets

If you want to purchase one, you can do so by going HERE. However, you may want to read the rules first, because your picture cannot be offensive, political, lewd, or possess any negative UofA comments, no vulgar words, no branding or commercial advertising. Just UofA NCAA sanctioned fan gear. If you have a group of 10 or more, you can get a discount by emailing catsinfo@arizona.edu to request a group promo code.

If you’re unsure if you want to put your own face, we decided to create some ideas for fans who we would like to see in the stands, some for fun and some for motivation.

Front and center, I say we give ASU head coach Bobby Hurley a spot. Not smiling or happy, but pouting or screaming, and definitely wearing a big fat /A\ on his chest. Sitting next to him, let’s put James Harden with a shirt that says, “I should have gone to the UofA.”

Now of course there should be a cutout of Arizona Head Coach Sean Miller with his eyebrows raised looking towards where Miller typically stands, so when he looks at the cutout, he can check himself and his shirt to make sure, well you know.

Now, let’s add the Pac-12 or consortiums head referee with his arms crossed looking at the scorers table to give the referees extra pressure to get the calls right.

How about putting a cutout of Kevin Parrom laughing in the stands? Remember during was Sean’s first season at Arizona when the Wildcats travelled to ASU and won? As you may recall, during the game Parrom got called for a foul on Ty Abbott, and subsequently, Abbott turned around and got in his face. What was Parrom’s response? He laughed in Abbotts face of course!

What if we could get three cutouts of Rondae Hollis-Jefferson doing his pre-free-throw shimmy in different stages, that would be great! Also, add a cutout of TJ McConnell blowing a kiss and Dusan Ristic putting his arms above his head touching his hands for a THREE!

Can’t forget adding Rawle Alkins after dunking on Elijah Stewart or Derrick Williams swatting the ball away during the NCAA Tournament just to give the players some great moments to remember while playing.

What about other current NBA players and coaches? Steve Kerr along with Andre Iguodala, Miles Simon (winking of course), Aaron Gordon, Stanley Johnson, and Solomon Hill. I’m sure I am missing many others.

Lest we not forget about our Gumby’s (led by the infamous Bruce Fraser, Matt Muehlebach, and Harvey Mason Jr.who produced a Wildcats 80’s rap video. Or perhaps the most beloved bench player of all time, Josh Pastner?

There’s also Oretege Jenkins who was a beloved football player and bench player during the Lute Olson years.Remember, OJ had an important role in helping defeat the Washington Huskies by scoring the game winning touchdown by flipping over the defense.

And last but not least, I think it’s necessary to have Lute and Bobby Olson, Oompa Man, Sean Rooks and other Arizona Angels who could watch over the program. After all, they will never be forgotten.

Perhaps the best idea is to add a media section close to the court and put our favorites Dick Vitale, Seth Greenberg, Jay Bilas, Pat Forde and of course Mark Schlabach with egg on their face or loser printed on their shirt. Who says no? Went too far did we? What are your ideas?
